A channel stops with an error: automatic retry and switching

When a channel fails to play, the app reopens it by itself a few times. If it still fails, it shows Error occurred with the error text and these choices:

The error text in the message is what the stream returned. For the common ones see 401, 403 and other HTTP errors, SSL errors and ENOENT.

How many times to retry

Settings > Player > Network > Times to retry loading the video when error occurred:

A failed archive programme returns to the live channel.

In Expert mode the same screen also has:

Skipping broken channels

Remove broken channels from quick switch (same screen, default 60 minutes): a channel that has just failed is skipped when you switch channels up and down, for the time you choose, so you do not land on it again and again. No turns this off.

Switching to another source by itself

If the same channel comes from several providers or playlists, fold them into one entry (premium): Settings > Lists settings > Channels > Fold duplicate channels to a single element. Then, when the channel fails, the app switches to the next source by itself before it retries. In the archive it only picks a source whose archive covers the programme. To pick a source by hand, use Switch to another media source in the player menu.

To keep the source you chose, turn on Do not switch to a different source on error automatically. in the same settings screen. See also Managing channels of several providers.

These settings are hidden in Simplified mode (Settings > Extended settings > User experience level).
